What better way to spend the Eid morning than to wander in the lanes of Chandani Chowk !!

4

It all started when I saw this photo walk event on Facebook. I wasn’t sure of going as it was all about photography and I am obviously not a photographer. But then I saw some ace bloggers accepting the invite and then I thought if not for the photos I have to be there to meet these great people. I have seen their posts, I follow them on every social media and here was a chance to meet them in person. I didn’t wanna give it a miss.

Saturday mornings are a bit difficult for me but the dedication got me going and finally I reached Chandani Chowk, I was in constant touch with Tarun who was one of the organizers. He is also an avid blogger and writes at My Greedy BackPack. He introduced me to the group and then we started with the walk.

After a while everyone wanted to have breakfast, and when in Chandani Chowk how can you eat anything else other than parathas. We made our way to the famous Parathe Wali Gali and treated ourselves with stuffed parathas.

Eid Mubarak and also Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri !!

1

With Facebook’s continuous memory hop notification I started wondering about past events. Since it is an auspicious occasion of Eid and people are greeting each other by posting wishes on Facebook. One of the posts on my timeline by one of my Malaysian friends caught my attention. She wrote:

“Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri! Eid Mubarak. ..
Have a joyous time with loved ones! !”

I never knew this was also one of the ways to wish for the Joyous occasion of Eid until I visited Malaysia. All I knew was “Happy Eid” and “Eid Mubarak”. The Hari Raya word brought back so many memories of this time in Malaysia. It is one of the most celebrated festivals of Malaysia. I remember during these times we had plethora of free lunches and brunches almost every day. Now imagine this, you are deeply engrossed in your work and suddenly a reminder pops up and notifies you that you have to be at the energy hub for Hari Raya celebrations. It was utter joy. God I miss those times. I regret why wasn’t I writing at that time, I would have given you more insights of the event. But nevertheless like they say “better late than never”.

Cricket ke liye kuch bhi karega !!

Cricket is the most followed religion in India. Probably the only one which connects people over and above their cast and creed. The madness for Cricket across the country is well known. We have the potential of eating and drinking cricket. If you don’t believe then reminisce the time of the world cup. Though world cups are huge and it surely deserves our undivided attention but the mayhem remains the same even for an ordinary test/ODI series. When it comes to cricket there is nothing like ordinary or normal it is always monumental. The fetish for Cricket is not limited to a specific age group, a 40 year old man is as much excited for cricket as a 12 year old boy. I told you it is a religion, functions beyond anything that you can imagine.

Now don’t we all want a life where we can snug in our bed with a large bowl of popcorn and watch the cricket match without any interruption? The answer to this would be, if only wishes were horses beggars would ride. There are so many other things and events which challenges our dedication towards the game. School, college, work, a train journey, an emergency flight and many more. But we Indians have the capability of finding out solutions from nowhere. We might not have the luxury of sitting in front of the large LCD/LED and watch the high definition telecast but we still manage to keep up with the current scores and updates. Yes we have our own ways.

Life is good when your parents are your friends first and everything else later.

Being a parent is the toughest job. You have to be on your toes all the time. There is not even a minute of respite. Parenting can get tricky as you want to become so many people at the same time. I don’t have any kids so I can just imagine the level of pandemonium that it can bring to an individual’s life.

During my childhood I have experienced many hints of parental flavor. There were times when I had to undergo strict rules and regulations whereas there were also the times when I was set free to do whatever I wanted to do. My mother was more of a pacifier but father was strict. Randomly the roles used to switch but majorly this was the case in my house. While mummy would patiently stand behind and see me experimenting in her kitchen, papa would fiercely run behind the bicycle to ensure I learn riding in time. With time, gradually the scenario changed but just a tad bit. But if I have to tell holistically then yes I would accept my parents were majorly parents and at times buddies. But trust me that has worked very well for me.

When I hit India’s only F1 racing circuit with the ‘All New Honda Jazz’

When I saw my name in the shortlisted bloggers to attend the Hangout with Honda at Buddh International Circuit to showcase the All New Honda Jazz, I was excited to another level. I had never attended such an event before so I was very much looking forward to it. The event was very well organized. I had received all the details about the event well in advance. A big thumbs up to the team Honda for taking care of even the minutest details of the event.

The first spot was Hotel Raddison Blue in Greater Noida. Our transports were arranged in prior for pick and drop, this is what I was talking about when I said the Honda team took care of even the minutest details. I reached the destination well in time, or I would say I was a little early as most of the bloggers arrive after 30-40 minutes. Now you should know that bloggers from all over India were coming to this event and yes the traffic of NCR often takes you for a ride.

"Humne apni beti ko bete jaisa pala hai" : Why on earth would you do that ?

0

“Humne kabhi apni beti ko bete se kam nahi samjha”

“Humne apni beti ko bête jaisa pala hai”

“Humari beti kisi bête se kam nahi”

I am not sure should I be happy with these statements or should I go into deep thoughts gloomily. These statements basically describe the whole problem with the gender inequality. Why would you raise your Daughter like a Son? Why would you ever compare your daughter with your son or with anyone’s sons. Are sons some benchmark that one has to achieve. Are they the epitome of righteousness that one has to follow their footsteps or do you do something extra in your son’s upbringing that you have now incorporated for your daughter as well. Have you ever heard “Humne apne bête ko beti jaisa pala hai” , “Humara beta kisi beti se kam nahi” ? I bet you haven’t.

There can be a lot of logical and illogical responses to my afore question. Few that I have heard are it is a colloquial way of saying, it has been said like this ever since. A lot of things have been done in some or the other ways ever since but it has now either changed or evolved. Why are we still stuck to the old and conventional thoughts when it comes to daughter and sons. I am not asking for a revenge here by demanding counter phrases for guys, all I want to say it there is no need to do the comparison at all.

Why a Merlion is called a Merlion ?

1

The iconic Merlion statue is located at the Merlion Park and it is one of the major tourist attractions in Singapore. If you ever Google “list of tourist attractions in Singapore” then Merlion would definitely boats its position in the top three spots.

Only if I was a little more of a photographer I would have captured the whole of the Marina Bay Sands hotel in the picture. Nevertheless not a bad click for an amateur.

Merlion Park is a great spot to click postcard photos during your Singapore visit. The place is always very crowded and you would definitely spot some top notch cameras with giant lenses.

While doing my research on various tourist attractions in Singapore, the name Merlion was stuck in my head. I wondered why is was called a Merlion and not something else. I am sure the thought must have crossed your head too. I will unveil the trivia behind it.

Did you know that there is a Visa Temple in Hyderabad?

2

My love for Hyderabad is not hidden from anyone, for those who don’ know what I am talking about can refer here. To bewilder you all a little more let me introduce this amazing temple in Hyderabad, yes you heard it right there is a Visa Temple in Hyderabad. The proper name being Chilkur Balaji Temple but colloquially it is know as Visa Balaji Temple or Visa God. I was new in Hyderabad when I first heard about this temple, and yes I would accept I giggled knowing the existence of such a temple. As time passed I heard more and more people mentioning about it. I too inquired few people about this temple and they all spoke very highly of it.

Why is it called a Visa Balaji Temple?

After hearing so much about it I couldn’t stop myself from doing some research on it. I then found the reason behind the much celebrated Visa Power that this temple boasts. It is believed that during 1980’s a group of students whose visa got rejected by the Chennai US visa consulate visited here and they prayed and sought Lord Balaji’s blessings. After this visit their wishes were fulfilled and they all got their visa. It happened with a lot of other people too and with the undisputed mighty power of word of mouth in no time this temple bagged the title of the first ever Visa Temple in India.
