O for Onsite #AToZChallenge

Onsite, does it ring any bell? I guess it must have rolled drums in your head. In an IT industry onsite is a coveted opportunity that only a few are bestowed with. But it is longed by all. Do you want to go onsite, the answer is always yes and the head nods in agreement.

Remember the times when your neighbor uncle would flaunt about his son’s visit to US and would just not stop bragging about it. It was since then I knew onsite is something great. I had no idea about it, all I knew was that you get to travel to the foreign lands, meet new people, click amazing pictures and then show it off on Facebook. Because back then everybody who used to go to Onsite did only these things. Another big misconception that I had was that everybody who works in IT industry gets an Onsite. Yes, you may laugh but back then I used to think the same. Little did I know.

Okay coming back to the reality and the present. I see people dying for Onsite. Insisting and cajoling their managers like anything just to get that so much sought after prized possession. So basically at a regular workplace you would find three varieties the ones who are already at onsite, the ones who are just back and the ones who are dying to go. The majority falls in the last category and they have special feelings about the people belonging to the other two categories. You basically envy people who belong to the category one and the envious feeling is pretty much justified. You might also think that they are unfair with the work assignments, offloading all the work to you and enjoying all the accolades for the same. For the second category there is just one feeling hatred. You detest when their “Chocolates at my desk” mail lands in your mailbox. You absolutely loath when they keep boasting about the places they had visited while they were onsite. Every time they open their mouth you are like err, just the way Chandler used to do it.

Yes such is the desire for onsite. To everyone out there who are looking for an onsite desperately I wish and pray you get one soon. Till then keep working and keep contributing to your work place.

I feel on cloud nine and I just wanted to share it with you all. I was thrilled doing it and I am so excited that I couldn’t stop myself from sharing this with all of you. So do have a quick look at the address bar, yes there is it.

The most important aspect of a shoe is the comfort it has to offer to our foot. Talking about comfort ballerinas are the first thing that comes to my mind. They are comfortable and at the same time so chic. Gone those days when you were stuck with just the basic kinds of Bellie Boots, you now have a complete range of stylish and offbeat ballerinas available in the market. Formal Ballerinas: These are the conventional kinds which introduced the concept of Bellie Boots to us. There was a time when we thought ballerinas can only be used for formal events. The basic black ballerinas were the first things that you could picture back then. But still they were very popular because of the ease and comfort offered by them. It was the conventional ballerinas with the toe area open so that the air could easily pass through the feet. It came as a tailor made Bellie Boots for them and it was a win win situation for everyone out there.

The significance of a good shoes cannot be ignored and undermined may be for males or females. Just like you can tell a lot about a man by the type of drink he orders or by his taste of music, you can speak volumes about a women by just looking at what is she is wearing on her feet. So ladies wearing the wrong shoes is something that you just can’t afford. Put on the best Bellie Boots that you in your closet and step out to make your mark in the world.

K for KT (Knowledge Transfer) #AToZChallenge

KT is a regular affair in every IT professional’s life. To all who have absolutely no idea about it, KT stands for Knowledge Transfer. The word explains it all and it doesn’t have any other hidden meaning whatsoever.

Every time you move from one organization or from one engagement (project) somebody else would be filling in your space. The new person knows the technology but has no idea about the process and methodology that you used to work on. To cover this gap the transfer of knowledge takes place and hence the KT comes into the picture.

KT involves two parties the giver and the taker. In most of the cases the KT giver is not interested in this process. He is so high thinking about his future engagements that he hardly cares about his current responsibilities. He does it just for the heck of doing. The KT receiver however shares just the opposite feelings. He is excited for the new assignments and wants to churn out more and more from the KT provider. The reluctance from one side and the eagerness from the other side makes this process really hectic and often full of friction. You would now think that this practice is a waste of time as it doesn’t fulfill any of the purposes. But that is not the case. If either of the parties involved in the KT process is proactive and organized there is a high probability the KT would reach to its propitious end.

I have been on both the sides and I completely stand by each and every word that I have written. If you aren’t associated with the IT world then I am sure I have enlightened you with this new phenomenon called KT and if you are a member of this esteem world then do let us know your KT experience. How I managed to #SHARETHELOAD

I am very late for this post but I have my own reasons for it. You all know what basically needs to be done for this post. Ask your partner, friend, brother to help you share the load and assist you in doing the laundry. Post their fun pictures and blog about the whole experience. I thought I will do the same but destiny had something else in store for me.

One fine day I received this cute packet of Ariel Matic. I was ecstatic to see it as I was expecting it since long time, but my happiness went for a toss when I thought of the next course of the actions. I live far from my parents because of my work so asking my father and brother for helping me in this campaign was out of the options. I am single and thus there is no guy smitten in love enough to do this for me. I pulled myself and thought there are many friends I will ask any of them I am sure they will be happy to help. To my surprise it was not the case. They were ashamed of doing it, some of them even said we will help but we are not okay with our pictures being put up on the blog, I found it disheartening.

I didn’t want to give up on this and I thought of all possible ways through which I could conform to the requirements of this campaign. I thought I will dig out an old picture and do a little editing and photoshoping so that I could fabricate a photo by inserting the photo of Ariel Matic. I even started with it but after sometime I thought do I really have to do this, do I have to lie about it ? I couldn’t do it. I was sitting in my room all disappointed and lost. Seeing me like this my flatmate came to me and she offered her help. She was very well aware of the ordeal that I had gone through. I explained her the campaign and she insisted that I should be writing the truth. I told her how everyone has written such amazing posts for this and mine would not even conform to the standards. She was still firm and after a small discussion I agreed to her. She became my partner in this and she was happy to #SHARETHELOAD with me by taking part in #WASHBUCKETCHALLENGE. You can see how happy she was to do this for me.

This is probably the first time when I had so much fun washing clothes.

Things I really like about Ariel Matic:

The smell: The moment I opened the packet a refreshing smell came out of it. I thought it would fade off once the clothes are dried but to my surprise it was just intact. All my clothes have this mild fragrance which makes me smell them again and again.
The quantity: For a tub full of clothes I just has to use one spoon of Ariel Matic. I thought I would be needing more in order to satiate the high demands of the dirt and stains on my clothes. But again Ariel Matic took me to surprise.
Easy on hands: As you could clearly make out that I don’t have a washing machine. There are some cons of bachelorhood. I hand washed my clothes. Generally my hands go rough and the texture of the skin changes. Ariel Matic was way different from all the detergents that I have ever used. My hands were soft and moreover they start smelling good. 🙂
Easy on pocket: Another very important aspect of Ariel Matic is that is doesn’t dig a big hole in your pocket. Considering how efficient the performance is I was expecting it to be a little pricey, but this little packet of joy for my clothes is way in my budget.

My #SHARETHELOAD experience is way out of the order but I had fun doing it. I might have not followed the rules but I enjoyed it.

G for Go Live #AToZChallenge

Employees to their family and friends:

“I won’t be back home in time, go live is scheduled in next week. Got lots of work to do”

“I cannot make it to the wedding, manager is not approving the leaves because of the go live scheduled during the same time.”

“I am working on weekends, go live has to go smooth.”

Bosses to their employees:

“We cannot give you vacation this month, we have the Go Live scheduled and hence a lot to complete in strict timelines.”

“You will have to come and work on weekends, Go Live is due in the next week. We have to double test everything.”

This is an everyday story for an IT professional. I often fail to explain this Go Live funda to my parents. They don’t understand it. My mother would often say “What is this Go Live ? Aren’t you already working on an up and running system ?” To this, most of the times I have no answer but I try and explain her in the best possible way that I can.

So what is this Go live ? How do I explain this to a layman ? I would explain Go Live by comparing it to a marriage ceremony. Just like a marriage is scheduled on a particular day, the Go Live is also set for a particular day. Just like we start preparing, rehearsing and arranging for a marriage months in advance, we start the testing, designing and coordination for a Go Live well in advance. Just like the days around marriage are hectic and boisterous, the days around Go Live are full of pressure and lots of work. Like your physical presence is must on the day of marriage similarly your physical/virtual existence is a mandate on the day of Go Live. Just like post marriage events are as important as marriage similarly post Go Live issues hold as much significance as the Go live.

I am not sure how well I have compared the Go Live with a marriage ceremony but I couldn’t think of anything else having such close similarities. What do you guys think ? F for Fire Drill #AToZChallenge

It always happens at your work place, isn’t it ? Do we really pay any heed to it? Do we really give it its due importance? The answer is no. As I had said earlier also I would not be preaching in this series so please don’t consider this post another gyan piece.

Recently a fire drill happened at my work place. The team triggered a false fire alarm so that all the employees vacate the work area and gather outside where the rest of the demonstrations were suppose to happen. To my surprise the fire alarm didn’t do much work. Nobody moved an inch from their place. The security had to walk in and make each and every employee move individually. They were literally requesting everyone to move out as if they had some vested interest out of it.

After a lot of hassle a respectable crowd gathered in the assembly area where the whole setup was made. Considering how important and how critical this drill was everyone should have been on their toes. But again that was not the case. People were scattering here and there, the organizer had to request so many times for their attention but all in vain. The presenter did a good job in explaining the kind of fires and the basic practices that we should follow in case of a fire emergency. He also demonstrated various fire extinguishers and their usage. He invited various volunteers to use those extinguishers. While all this was happening people keep skipping the demonstration area slowly. I am nobody to judge here but I still think everyone should have stayed till the end.

Like I said before I am not preaching. I am just requesting you all to attend these fire drill whenever they are organized. Pay heed to the demonstrations and volunteer to learn the usage of various extinguishers. It is better to be safe than sorry.

E for Emergency Exit #AToZChallenge

I am dead sure you must have seen this sign at your workplace. It has to be there, somewhere in your office. If you haven’t seen it yet it is high time you go and look for it. You never know when It can be your life savior. It might sound lame of me to write on this but ever since the day I started with this challenge I was sure for this. It has to be Emergency Exit for E.

Generally we ignore the significance of this exit. First things first you should know where is the emergency exit on your floor. Second thing you really don’t need an emergency to use this exit. I often see people using lift for just one or two floor. I don’t know their part but they seem to look healthy enough to climb one or two floors. Use that emergency exit stairs to climb up to your floor. It might make you sweat a little but it is for your own good. Take stairs and be healthy, those stairs can definitely be the emergency exit stairs.

My seating location is at first floor and I take the stairs every time. You might think I am boasting here but isn’t it worth it. I have a resolution of not taking the lift till three floors, it if is beyond that I do take the lift. No I am not deviating form the topic. I am just trying to raise the curtain and introduce you to your daily dose of health – The Emergency Exit.

Have you ever imagined how your day at work would be if your colleague sitting next to you doesn’t show up for quite a few number of days. I know we don’t make very good friends in office, we like to keep them just as colleagues. Actually it is the last place where we expect to meet like minded people, but there are always some exceptions.

There are times when your colleague not only becomes your good friend but also your silent listener. I see a lot of female employees venting out their frustrations in front of their friends. Generally it happens in the loo. When you are getting ready for office there is always this set of people that you look forward to meet to. Often while packing your lunch you keep an extra piece for your friend. Just imagine how boring your day would be without them.The lunch break, the coffee break, the smoking break all goes for a toss without these few people.

I know we have better and best friends outside the workplace but these people also play a very significant role in our daily lives. I am sure we all have some colleague cum friends at our workplace. Value them. You might now realize it now but once they are gone you are going to miss them.

Journey of Doing Right Things #India4India

Talking about the problems in our country is a very trite thing that we all do. We never fail to mention the loopholes in the system. Even now If I ask about the main social issue, illiteracy and poverty will straight make their places on the top. But will we ever stop talking about it and start doing our bit. I think it is time we embark on the Journey of Doing Right things.

You would think what has suddenly made me so much responsible and my answer to that would be just a website. Yes you can laugh it off but if you don’t believe me just have a look here. We all are very well aware of what illiteracy is and what profound affects it has on our kids. Children are our future and we must take care of them with maximum efforts. Education is the only way out in the current scenario.

Do Right is an initiative by Tata Capital. Our campaign, the Journey of Doing Right, is currently addressing the challenge of Illiteracy in Varanasi. This is where our Do Righter found the unique boat school that has been started under the leadership of Ajeet Singh, founder of NGO Guria. Varanasi is a city which attracts thousands of tourists every day. It’s rich religious history makes it all the more sought after. But have you ever noticed that among various saints and disciple there are so many children wandering here and there. They have no clue and no direction about their lives and their future and then Varanasi Boast School happened to them. Boat School is an innovative approach towards teaching children. It is very important that the kids enjoy the education and it should appear interesting to them so that they hold on it for a long time. So this creative school is helping the kids in all possible way they can, if you don’t believe me just hit play on the below video.

Even though the journey has started but there is a lot of scope of amelioration. The boat school practically needs a magical transformation so that ideal learning environment can be created for the kids. This educational haven needs a lot of help from all of us. The kids are wiling to study all they need is a helping hand. A lot needs to be done in terms of improving the boat, arranging more stationary, more equipment and more means of education. If you have seen the above video you must have noticed how much energy and ambition is caged inside them. It needs to erupt out just like a volcano. Boat school is even planning to arrange for #ScholarShip for them.

This post is basically an urge to all of you. I know we all are so busy in our lives that we don’t even get time for others, But I am sure we can support the few ones who are standing out there for others. I urge you all to spend some time here and do your bit. Even a small help from all you can shape a child’s future and fulfill his/her dreams.
