Lock-down scribbling – Talking about Emergency Fund – Free Writing Part 1

My flatmate’s friend has been asked to take unpaid leaves for the next four months. He came home today and narrated the whole story. His further plans are to move home and start preparing for higher studies. He has anyway resigned. He sounded more relieved and less concerned. Things fell into place for him. He also told that pretty much everyone in his firm has been asked to do the same. I couldn’t help but wonder about people who are the sole bread earner of the house. How are they going to cope with this sudden change? It is worrying and disturbing. Not only because it has to do with finances but also because this directly impacts the mental health of the family members.

That’s right! Few countries don’t require Indians to apply for a visa. Here is the list of top 10 visa free countries for Indian citizens.

Traveling through Bodoland and discovering untouched Assam

When I say Bodoland, the most frequent reaction I get is “where is this place?” I would have reacted the same if not for my recent trip to Bodoland as a Bodoland Ambassador. Bodoland Tourism organized Ambassador of Bodoland season 2 and to my fortune I was one of the 12 bloggers to venture into the experiential journey through Bodoland. This blog talks about my journey, experiences and stories that I collected while travelling through the untouched part of Assam, Bodoland.

Things to do in and around Vijayawada

Things to do in and around Vijayawada

Located on the banks of the Krishna River, Vijayawada is a beautiful city in the heart of Andhra Pradesh. It can be a strange choice for a few people but it is full of surprises for an inquisitive soul. The old parts of Vijayawada let you soak in the rich history and cultural past while the developed area gives you a flavour of modern architecture and the metropolitan lifestyle. One gets to enjoy the best of both worlds when in Vijayawada. So when I announced I was visiting Vijayawada it raised quite a few eyebrows but I didn’t pay much heed to it.

Five ways to travel fuller and happier

0

Impromptu travel is really my style. I generally don’t plan much, nor very ahead of time. The way to let the adrenaline kick in is to just roar off into the horizon.

It doesn’t mean I am an irresponsible traveller though. Nor an apathetic one. To have really immersive travel experience, I try to be socially and culturally aware of the place. Won’t it be a pity if I arrived someplace by a flight, stayed in a star hotel and went sightseeing to all the ‘recommended’ places?

Exploring Phuket with Aleenta Hotel Resorts & Spa

Exploring Phuket with Aleenta Hotel Resorts & Spa

After a week of sickness and a week of recovery, travel to a new place can be very rewarding. And when it involves venturing to a new country, the excitement goes through the roof. For my first visit to the land of smiles, Thailand, I partnered with Akaryn Hotel Group. The first destination in the country was Phuket. Akaryn Hotel Group has two properties in Phuket, one by the name of Aleenta Hotel Resorts & Spa and the other by the name of Akyra Beach Club. In this post, I will be talking all about my experience with Aleenta Hotel Resorts & Spa.

Review of Akyra Manor in Chiang Mai

As the plane touch down Chiang Mai International Airport, I peeped out of the window and saw mountain ranges. I was surprised to bits to see a runway with the mountain backdrop. Chiang Mai International Airport is one of the most picturesque airports I have seen so far. Chiang Mai was the second destination in Thailand after Phuket. From the beaches of Aleenta Hotel Resorts & Spa to the mountains of Chiang Mai, it was such a drastic change of landscape. Not just the landscape, there was a drop in the temperature as well. I partnered with Akyra Manor Chiang Mai for my time in Chiang Mai. After having an exemplary experience with Aleenta and Akrya in Phuket I was looking forward to my stay in Akyra Manor Chiang Mai.

Everything that you need to know about Thai Spirit House

Everything that you need to know about Thai Spirit Houses

I am just back from an epic 10 day trip from Thailand. The first destination was Phuket and then Chiang Mai and then finally Bangkok. So basically I traversed through the whole geography of Thailand, starting from the southern part to the north and then culminating the trip in the capital city. While I have something to say about every destination that I visited but I will park that for some other day. For today, I will be talking and explaining all about the “Spirit House or Phi House” in Thailand. Phi in Thai means spirit or ghost and hence the name Phi houses.

Dokra Art in Dhenkanal District of Odisha

Even before setting foot in Bhubaneshvar I knew I had to go to Dhenkanal. If you are wondering why Dhenkanal then the answer is Dokra art. I got to know about Dhenkanal and Dokra art only a couple of days before the trip. Because I didn’t get much time to research about the place, I had no idea about the route and other logistics. The only thing that I was certain of was going to Dhenkanal district in Odisha. I could not, in my right state of mind miss the chance of witnessing Dokra art which has put Dhenkanal on the world map.

Exploring Pattachitra of Raghurajpur and Appliqué of Pipili

A neat lane with identical houses is the first thing that you will see as you set foot in the Raghurajpur. Ajit Swain Ji introduced me to Bipin Das Who was busy working on one of his Pattachitra orders. He welcomed me inside his house and started showing me around. For the uninitiated Raghurajpur is a heritage crafts village in Puri district in Bhubaneshwar. It is worldwide famous for its adept Pattachitra Painters and Gotipua dance troupes. This idyllic village on the banks of the River Bhargabi appears unreal. The village looks like a set from some art and craft project. All the houses have bright colour walls with  Pattachitra paintings hanging outside.
