Everything That You Need to Know About Basar Confluence

Everything That You Need to Know About Basar Confluence

When 2018 started one of the major destinations on my travel wish list was the North East part of the country. Didn’t zero of the state or city, anywhere in the North East and I would be happy about it. So you can imagine my happiness going leaps and bounds when the invitation to attend Basar Confluence landed in my inbox. There are energies out in the universe conspiring in my favour. When I got invited for the confluence I was intrigued as well because I had never heard of this confluence before. I started searching and reading more and more about it. An hour of googling and I knew I was in for an experience of a lifetime. I couldn’t wait to pack my bags and leave for Basar to attend the third edition of BasarConfluence.

Pushing my Luck at Maa Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati

Pushing my Luck at Maa Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati

I lifted my heels and got on my toes to peek at the queue in front. It has been close to one hour of standing and the queue has not moved an inch. There are seats installed on both sides of the queue. It only goes to show that the temple administrators were visionary enough to gauge the popularity of the Maa Kamakhya temple well in advance. It was past sunset and like many others, I was standing tall with all my grit and determination. Visiting Maa Kamakhya Temple was on my list from the very moment an air ticket to Guwahati landed in my inbox. There was no way I was leaving the temple without offering my prayers to the deity. But the destiny has different plans.

Reliving Childhood in Kondapalli : The Toy Village in India

Kondapalli: The Toy Village in India

Discovering Kondapally wasn’t a stroke of luck. I was looking forward to my visit to Kondapally, the toy village of India right from the moment I booked my tickets to Vijayawada. Nestled in the foot of the Eastern Ghats in Andhra’s Krishna district, the village of Kondapalli is located approximately 24 km away from the main city Vijayawada. The google maps helped until a point and thereafter we were on our own. Driving around lanes and by lanes and asking very person the way to the village, It took us almost an hour to reach the village.  A moderately sized shop with glass doors and a huge green banner “Kondapalli Toys” confirmed our arrival. From where I stood, I saw a quaint village lane lined with small rustic houses.

Sculpture Park in Shilparamam:  My Impromptu Find in Hyderabad

Shilparamam is the most popular weekend destination in Hyderabad. Located in Madhapur, right in the heart of the city, it is the cynosure and very hard to miss by every passerby. It is an art and craft village and sprawled across 65 acres of land. All kinds of recreational activities are conducted inside the park. The museums (rural and rock) inside the park showcases a scenic ambience of tradition and cultural heritage. Shilparamam hosts the majority of art and craft carnivals/celebrations. Currently, they are having a “Sarees of India” display going on. Shilparamam has been an instrumental aid in promoting the artisans and preserving Indian art and crafts.

A Visit to The Recently Opened Dhyan Buddha Park in Amravati

I had no clue as to how to reach Amravati, leave aside reaching the Dhyan Buddha Park. Also, the challenge was to reach the destination economically. I was totally not in the mood to spend thousands to reach Amravati. Though that was the easiest way, hire a cab, pay the hefty amount and bam you have reached. But clearly, I had different plans. I weighed in all my options, did a price point comparison with all the means of transport and finally zeroed on taking an Ola auto. Not very adventurous, I know but considering I was solo and had absolutely no idea about the area I thought of sticking to a safer option towards the to journey.

Amravati is a small village in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh. It is close to 65 kilometres away from the main Vijayawada city. And I took approximately 1.5 hours by the auto to reach the destination.

A Blind Date with Stories #TheBlindList

I am a story chaser. My travel bucket list is not in terms of destinations but in terms of stories that I churn out of the travels. The destination is the same for the whole wide world but what you squeeze out of it is your personal collection. Over the time my store repertoire has been increasing exponentially. I am satiated by people I meet and things I discover by venturing on blind dates with the destination.

“Your creative work is not your baby; if anything, you are its baby”

Elizabeth Gilbert (Big Magic, Creative Living Beyond Fear)

You might remember Elizabeth Gilbert from the famous book “Eat, Pray and Love”. It was one of the bestsellers and rightly so. Talking about Big Magic, this book came as a recommendation in one of the book recommendation threads on Twitter. I took the plunge, totally because I had loved “Eat, Pray and Love”.

Gandikota: How to Reach and Things to do

Oblivious of what to expect I kept stepping ahead in Gandikota, a small village in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. In the blazing sun, my steps paced up as I saw the glimpse of Gandikota Fort. A small tomb on one side and a gigantic gate on the other side, I made my way in, now assured that I am in for a grand affair.

A small Hanuman temple right at the entrance confirmed the harmonious coexistence of different religions in this small village. I kept walking my way through the ruins of Gandikota to get the whiff of the heritage and its stories. People in high volume visit this place to witness the spectacular gorge formation, courtesy river Pennar that cuts through Erramala hills. The gorge has gained a lot of popularity as the Hidden Grand Canyon of India. And the magnificent Gandikota Fort royally perches at the top of this gorge.

Norwegian Wood || Book Review

“I have a million things to talk to you about. All I want in this world is you. I want to see you and talk. I want the two of us to begin everything from the beginning.” Murakami (Norwegian Wood)

I have always dreaded even at the thought of reading a Murakami but I couldn’t be more wrong. For some reason, I always thought the author would be a complex writer but to my surprise, it’s just the opposite. It is a popular notion that Norwegian Wood is an apt first Murakami book that one should read, and rightly so.

“Even if I’m dying until I actually die, I am still living.
Paul Kalanithi (When Breath Becomes Air): Book Review

I have had quite a good struggle before writing this one. I am still confused as to which facet of this book should be presented in front of the world. To begin with, the author of the book passed away while writing. It has been given a proper ending by his wife. The author Paul was suffering from Lung cancer and the irony is that he himself is a neurosurgeon.
