I woke up to the screeching of the train brake and I knew it is not the destination yet. Kanatal was still 2-3 hours drive away. For someone who suffers from motion sickness in the mountains, the cool breeze and lush green scenic view were the motivation for the drive. We reached our destination The Terraces and the glimpse of good hospitality were evident from the very outset.
Welcome with ear to ear smiles 🙂
A huge brick and mortar structure never impresses me until it is accompanied by smiling faces, and the very first step in the property and I was looking forward to my stay already. The resort staff was very cordial and they took the luggage as we arrived to the reception. While I was drooling over their unique welcome drink, the staff sorted out the check-in formalities and we were handed our key cards for the cottages. Yes you heard it right, we weren’t going to be in a room, we all had an individual cottage all by ourselves. The reception area and the entrance of The Terraces had a very earthy and homely feel.
Swiping in the Cottages
Swiping the card to a room has always made me excited and apprehensive both. Excited for the stay and apprehensive if it is worth the money I have spent or not. But this wasn’t the case with The Terraces. Something was telling me that it is going to be good. Maybe the kick start that their staff gave us made me confident about it.
The room was huge and cozy. The interiors were tastefully done. Everything starting from the linen to the lamps were exclusively picked to go with the theme and color combination of the room. Later I got to know that they have different interiors for all the cottages. The biggest surprise for me was the fire place, it was my first to share a room with the fire places. The cottage had a rustic old time charm which is very difficult to find these days. How can I miss to mention, that the balcony offered us breathtaking views of the mountains.
The bathrooms were decent and the long hanging flush of the WC did catch my attention. It reminded me of the British era. Generally I don’t use the toiletries provided by the hotel/resorts but here I made an exception and my risk was worth taking.

Feasting over meal
Breakfast at The Terraces was potpourri of choices from all over the India. From breads, to fruits, to muffins to the popular Indian breakfast choices, they had it all at their restaurant Fire Stone. The restaurant is strategically located so that you can enjoy the view while having the first meal of the day. They also have outdoor dining arrangements, so if you wish to enjoy the beaming sun with the meal you just have to make your way out of the restaurant .
Amenities, what do I get extra
The Terraces not just offers a promising stay experience but it has a lot of options to pamper their guests too. Their spa bearing the name Spa Esensia is a perfect way of indulging in an exotic relaxing affair. Their recreation area is a great way to spend a lousy afternoon. It features indoor sports like Carrom. Fooseball, Pool and a lot more. Another attraction that caught my attention was their bar Collective Energy, such an apt name for a place like that.
Not Just the conventional stay experience ♥
At The Terraces, they offer a feature which I have never found anywhere else and it was called Beyond Terraces. It simply meant something apart from your regular stay. The staff organizes camping for the guests in beautiful campsites located in various forests across Kanatal. They also offer home stay experience wherein you get to stay in a village just like locals. The staff of The Terraces is so adept that they also take you on nature walks and bird watching tours. Like they said it was beyond stay, Beyond Terraces experience.
Location and Accessibility
The Terraces is located on the famous Chamba Mussoorie highway. The nearest railway station and airport is Dehradun and hence it is very easy to access the resort via road, train and air. Sprawled in an area of five acres all the cottages of the resort is designed in such a way that you can enjoy the view of snow-clad Himalayan peaks from every room.
Do I recommend it?
The Terraces gets a big thumbs up from me. I would definitely recommend it to all my readers. So next time if you hitting the roads of Uttarakhand don’t forget to check out this resort.
